Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from thrift.plus (the “Site”).
PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information”.
We collect Device Information using the following technologies:
- “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.
- “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
- “Web beacons”, “tags”, and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.
Additionally when you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, and phone number. We refer to this information as “Order Information”.
Your payment information is processed by a secure third party payment processor. For purchases directly through our website we use PayPal, though this may change from time to time. We do not collect, store or process any payment information ourselves.
When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Order Information.
HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:
- Communicate with you;
- Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
- When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.
We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).
SHARING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We are extremely careful about sharing your Personal Information with third parties. In this context, third parties typically means software providers that allow us to provide the Thrift+ service.
For example, we use Shopify to power our online store. Necessarily, we must share your details with Shopify in order to manage your account, fulfil your order and the long list of other tasks required to run an effective e-commerce operation. You can read more about how Shopify uses your Personal Information here: https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy.
As another example, we also use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site. This data tells us which site you were on immediately before landing on our webpage (the 'referring site') so we can tell which sources are effective at driving traffic to our website. For example, it tells us if lots of people are arriving from social media, are searching for us on Google, or are typing our web address directly into their browser. You can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/. You can also opt-out of Google Analytics here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
We partner with Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising to capture how you use and interact with our website through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replay to improve and market our products/services. Website usage data is captured using first and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies to determine the popularity of products/services and online activity. Additionally, we use this information for site optimization, fraud/security purposes, and advertising. For more information about how Microsoft collects and uses your data, visit the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
We partner with Macmillan Cancer Support. Device Information may also be collected by our Partners, such as Macmillan Cancer Support, through tags placed on our website. Any cookies will be stored for 180 days. See their Privacy Policy for further information.
In line with our legal responsibilities as a data processor, we thoroughly vet any third party software before we share any data. This includes an assessment of alternatives, a review of their own data policies, and as far as possible limiting the amount of data we share to only that which is precisely required to provide that service.
To formalise these relationships with our suppliers with access to your data, we have put in place a Data Privacy Agreement with each supplier that clearly sets out the responsibilities of both parties in keeping your data secure.
Finally, we may also be required to share your Personal Information to comply with applicable regulations, lawful requests for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.
SHARING INFORMATION WITH OUR DONATION PROCESSING PARTNER
A critical part of the service to our donors, is getting any funds raised from the sale of your clothes to your recommended charity.
In order to do this, we partner with PayPal Giving Fund (registered charity No.1110538).
As part of this process, we share your email address with PayPal Giving Fund so that they can send you a donation receipt, and so that they can contact you in the event that PayPal Giving Fund is not able to fund your charity.
If you wish to reclaim Gift Aid on your donation, we will also pass additional details (name, address, confirmation of taxpayer status) to PayPal Giving Fund. PayPal Giving Fund will only use these details for the purposes of claiming Gift Aid, and held for its own record-keeping, and will be protected by its privacy policy.
Your donation data will not be shared with charities receiving grants, or anyone else, unless you give your explicit approval.

EMAIL ADVERTISING
We use email as the main way to contact you regarding any order you place with us or service you request. We define these emails as 'transactional' emails which are required in order to provide our service.
However, we also use email as a means to notify you of news, offers, events, or changes to the service. In order to receive these 'marketing' emails, you are required to actively opt-in at checkout or by specifically signing up to our newsletter.
If you change your mind at any time, we always include an 'unsubscribe' link on all of our communications. Please follow this link to adjust your preferences. If for any reason this link is not working or you continue to receive marketing emails, please contact us at privacy@thrift.plus
